Giovanni Ortega, Artistic Director Of FilAm Arts Teatro
(AEA, SAG-AFTRA, SDC) has been working professionally for over a decade. He believes in creating an accepting and inclusive relationship with artists and communities alike regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation and class. In the past few years, he's teamed up with several organizations around the world to observe how the arts and culture are used to inform different populations on how we can decimate discrimination and enhance acceptance.
As a multidisciplinary artist, a public speaker in over one-hundred-forty college campuses and an international collaborator, these experiences have given Giovanni the opportunity to see the variety and diversity of what our society has to offer. This is what he continuously instills with the people that he interacts with in communities, organizations and academia.

Based in NYC, Broadway Barkada, a collective of professional Filipino artists on and off Broadway, is excited to debut a new song entitled "Stories Like Air” — a FilAm ARTS EXCLUSIVE tribute to theatre and to theatre artists for this year's 27th Festival of Philippine Arts & Culture 2020 "Tuloy Po Kayo". It is written from the perspective that theatre is an art form in which a community of artists comes together to tell stories through words, music, movement, and design. Built into the song is a call for the importance to keep telling stories. Artists are truly essential workers, especially during this challenging time.
Composer, Paolo Tirol notes, ""Stories Like Air" is a tribute to theatre and to theatre artists, written from the perspective that theatre is an art form in which a community of artists comes together to tell stories through words, music, movement, and design. In writing the song, I asked our cast about the role that theatre as an art form has played in people's lives during this pandemic, and I made it my goal to capture the thoughts and feelings they shared, as well as the passion with which they shared it. Built into the song is a call to keep telling stories as we get through this time."
