Our Mission
FilAm Arts (The Association for the Advancement of Filipino American Arts and Culture) is dedicated to advancing Filipino-American artists and culture bearers, by sharing resources, providing platforms and building community.
What We Do
FilAm ARTS exists as resource for artists and culture bearers of Filipino heritage outside the Philippines to cultivate a community who are rooted in our collective history and actively striving to represent, celebrate and express Filipino culture and our unique Filipino-American identity. FilAm ARTS is committed to serve as a cultural consultant to other organizations actively looking to further Filipino representation in the global community. FilAm Arts challenges the systemic invisibility of Filipino Americans in cultural, civic, and educational institutions by reclaiming space through community-led arts programming. We do this by: •
• Building community agency through cultural expression.
• Reclaiming ancestral practices as forms of resistance.
• Creating intergenerational spaces to heal and envision futures beyond white supremacy and colonialism.
Filipino Americans have been systematically erased from public, educational, and cultural narratives in Los Angeles, leading to underrepresentation, lack of belonging, and cultural invisibility.
Root Causes:
• Colonial mentality and internalized oppression
• Structural racism in the arts and education systems
• Lack of culturally relevant curriculum or media
• Funding inequities for BIPOC-led organizations
Intervention and how FilAm Arts seeks to solve these issues :
• Creates original, community-driven media (Kapwa Jam TV) COMING SOON
• Hosts cultural festivals and artist residencies rooted in ancestral healing
• Partners with educators for Filipino cultural integration in schools
• Develops leadership pipelines for FilAm youth and creatives
• Builds cross-racial solidarity and advocacy coalitions
