We art to live full lives and push back when we must.
Curators for Pelikula this FPAC2020 is TRES MARIX (Ara Chawdhury, Tala Mateo & Irene Soriano Saxon).
Tres Marix are three Community Art Chicks activating through curation, film, music, literary and visual art. Tres Marix is an experiment, a coming together of three artists that do work in their communities to champion voice -self with communit(ies)-, action (partnered with justice) and art (energized with social change). Introduced to each other pre-COVID and reintroduced across the interwebs during the pandemic, this is how we three stay inspired, active and ready to be of service. Our respective art practice and intentions always go hand in hand with critical dialogue opposing disenfranchisement, erasure, suppression, violence and all those -isms…the list is long.

"2020 has drained and reordered society as we know it.
It’s been a year of turbulence for the US, the Philippines and the rest of the world.
How do we make sense of it all? Many turn to art to cope, to learn and resist.
Artists are able to give voice to what many of us are feeling during these challenging times because Art is the language of the spirit."

FILM TITLE: Legend
DIRECTOR: Mark R. Villegas
TRT: 5:07 YEAR: 2008
GENRE: Documentary Short, Music
Legend explores the early DJ career of DJ Icy Ice. We glimpse the hip hop scene among young Filipino Americans and the cultural foundation set for the success of Filipino Americans in hip hop today. Don't get it twisted, Filipinos in hip hop aren't new. Through the story of Icy Ice, this documentary sets the record straight by illustrating the veteran status of Fil Ams in hip hop.
Program Title: ILAW NG TAHANAN (Light of the Home)
Program Description:
There is an old Filipino adage that the mother is the “light of the home.” As the “focus of attention” or a footnote in an objectionable infodoc or mentioned in passing during a conversation while working in the rice fields, the “mother” character in each of these films inform, provoke, ground, inspire, comfort and complicate already entangled family narratives. These short films invite you to delve into issues around abandonment, forgiveness, love, humor, self-acceptance, redemption and more…all reminders of the strong emotional force mothers and mother figures occupy in our lives.
